Surf Line '10 Winter

The Surf Line pages are perhaps our most popular pages.  Every surfer likes to see pictures of themselves and their buddies in the water.  The newest photos are always at the top; the older ones move down the page.  These are the surfers who were riding the waves of the Riviera during Winter of 2010.

A typical Riviera Wave Rider board meeting.  Long boards, wood boards, boogie boards, whatever it takes to get into the water is good...

One more ode to the big thick surf of Winter 2010...  Randy Ruby photo.

Chuck charging across a nice-head high wave...

Veronica paddling out on a beautiful mid-March morning with sunny skies and off-shore winds...

Christian makes a wide slow turn while the wave he is riding builds on a sand bar beneath him...

Surfers going out, surfers going in...

''Surfing is just out of this world. You can't imagine the thrill of shooting the curl. It positively surpasses every living emotion I've ever had.''  The original Gidget uttered those words some 50 years ago and our Gidget feels the same way too...

Randy Ruby in his office...

Can you hear the ballerina music or is that the "Kung Fu Fighting" song?

Some surfers will do anything for a little attention from a Lifeguard...

"O.K. you guys, all you have to do is paddle into a nice wave, drop-in, make the turn, line-up and run to the nose and pose..."

"See, just like this..."

"O.K. now wait a minute, you are going to paddle us into one of these outside waves and we're gonna do what"?

Adele and Sheri getting ready to paddle-out into some stiff on-shore wind.  When you are stoked, you're stoked.  These two are hard chargers...

The one and only Professor in his legendary hat...

We love this photo, more than 170 years worth of surfers standing here...

Matt here making the drop and lining up for a sweet ride...

Some people travel long distances to find waves like these;  Keith here found himself under this monster thick lip right here at Torrance Beach.  Yes, he made the turn and beat the lip.  'Just another epic February surf day at Torrance Beach...  Randy Ruby photo.  To see this image full size and others like it; visit Randy Ruby's pages on FaceBook.  A big mahalo to Randy for contributing so many great photos for the March 1, 2010 updates.

Chris here thoroughly enjoying himself while making a nice cut-back...  Randy Ruby photo.

Amy in a classic stance dropping in and lining up for a nice backside ride...  Randy Ruby photo.

Look up "stoked" in the dictionary and we are pretty sure you will find this picture there...   Randy Ruby photo.

Christian making tracks on a fast right...  Randy Ruby photo.

Sometimes it's hard to mask your yoga or martial arts training while surfing...  Randy Ruby photo.

Amy looks on while Christian makes a clean slide right...  Randy Ruby photo.

Creaky Tiki locked into the sweet spot...  Randy Ruby photo.

Creaky Tiki in his happy place on the nose...  Randy Ruby photo.

Gidget getting into the striking a pose routine...  Randy Ruby photo.

John, perfect trim, perfect postion, always classic...  Randy Ruby photo.

Patrick here spending a little quality time in the green room...  Randy Ruby photo.

Patrick rips in any direction on any kind of surf board, right-on...  Randy Ruby photo.

Rut-roh; Randy Ruby is on the beach with his camera; that means we lost our photog for the rest of the session...  Randy Ruby photo.

Our photog knows the best way to get your picture taken is to take a line and hold it as long as you can...  Randy Ruby photo.

Our photog likes to call this one the "Hollywood"...  Randy Ruby photo.

Don't you hate it when this happens to you?  Randy Ruby photo.

Even in the soup, Victor is styling...  Randy Ruby photo.

Victor is always a hard charger...  Randy Ruby photo

If we could read lips, we think Amy would be saying: "We paddled how far"?

Nothing like stand-up paddling on some flat water for a good core work-out...

When the surf is quiet and the alternative water craft come out; half the fun is trading boards with your buddies...

Welcome to paradise!  Hard to believe it is February 16th.  Gidget, Matt and a pod of dolphin were all enjoying this great morning with sunny skies, off-shore winds, warm temps and epic waves; it gets no better...

Matt says his right side is his better side, we think he is darn handsome from either side...

Ivette paddles the surf line several days a week and on this day she brought some dolphin along with her; right-on Ivette...

President's holiday weekend brought warm temps, great waves and tons of surfers to the line-up.  Like a child learning to cross the street by themselves; Amy was super cautious in the weekend crowd "looking both ways" before making any of her signature radical cut-backs...  Randy Ruby photo.

Local grown professional surfer Holly Beck having fun and doing what she does best at Torrance Beach.  You rip, Holly! Randy Ruby photo.

Some girls want to play house and set pretty tables, other girls want to surf.  On this morning it looks like Gidget was passing on setting any pretty tables.  A film crew was on the beach shooting "90210" when Amy was quick to see the photo opportunity and 'nabbed the cool shot, thanks Amy...

Here's our photographer, no wonder he was a day late submitting update photos.  Thanks to Amy and Randy Ruby for submitting photos for our February 16th update...  Randy Ruby photo.

January 2010 brought weeks of storms and huge surf closing out the beaches for days in a row.  In this photo Dano has captured some of the raw power, that's Randy Ruby on the beach looking rather small...

That's Haggerty's church and school in the background.  Not rideable but just beautiful... Randy Ruby photo.

Just another epic right during the storms with no one on it...  Dano photo.

When the beaches were closed out during the big January storms some hearty riders could be found charging the Redondo Breakwater...  Randy Ruby photo.

Despite busting his board Greg is still stoked after enjoying a winter session out at TORR...

Here's Hogan flying across an inside section.  His mom later said"  "Hey he's riding my board, I've never seen it go that fast"!  Right-on, Hogan...

Haggerty's in the winter; the wave, the off-shore wind, the obstacles...  Dano photo.

Gidget between winter storms finding a nice shoulder...

Chris is all concentration lining-up a nice shoulder and take-off...

John carving down the line; 'great wave, John...

Steve leans into this nice wave face getting ready to visit the Green Room...

Kevin making speed on his hand built wood body board...

Usually found trimmed-out doing some serious nose time; here our photog caught Creaky Tiki making the "big drop" on a juicy winter day in front of the TORR tower...

It would not be Christmas without a visit from Santa Randy Ruby Clause...

How cold is it this winter?  We think this picture says it all.  You know that cold air that falls out of the refrigerator when you open the door? Well, on this morning we were surrounded by it...

A large proportion of surfers are also artists and very creative.  While waiting out some winter storms for good surf days, The Professor obviously found something to do with a paint pen.  We think he is a trend setter, right-on Professor...

McBraveheart is known for being pretty tough but on this morning she was having second thoughts when we told her "...don't move and don't turn around"...

On New Year's Eve day, Ron was on fire.  After making a long run down a fast section; here he is slamming on the brakes as the wave closes out in front of him.  You rip, Ron...
